Airbnb and ChatGPT Walk into a Town

The signs along Tecopa Hot Springs Road communicate many things – hot rejuvenating waters! Or our new favorite, $399/night with two night minimum, yikes! Lake Tecopa’s Airbnb listing is oddly listed in New Mexico, but it is highly rated, with an overall rating of 4.88/5 stars from 50 reviews. Most guests (90%) gave 5 stars, appreciating the peaceful, secluded atmosphere and stunning desert views. They have a new second listing, though it has no reviews. The location offers a unique experience, especially for those wanting to enjoy warm spring baths under the stars, which many guests found to be a highlight of their stay, though others said that promised temperatures of 100 degrees or more were not reached.

Guests also praised the hosts, Adrian and Julie, for their warmth and communication, making the stay comfortable and enjoyable. The property is described as rustic, with some quirks due to ongoing renovations, but the cleanliness and overall value are consistently appreciated.

The room is minimalist but well-equipped with essentials like a kitchenette, a bed, and cooling amenities for the hot desert temperatures. The half bathroom is located outside, a short walk away. Guests particularly enjoyed the tranquility of the location, the beauty of the night sky, and the serenity of the outdoor tubs. A few guests noted minor issues, such as no shower, unfinished floors, ants and a lack of water access on-site, *which the hosts have since corrected with a gallon of water per room, but these did not detract from the overall positive experience.

In sum, it’s ideal for those looking for a quiet, remote retreat with a unique desert experience, though those seeking luxury or full amenities might find it less suitable.

Thanks for featuring our accommodation, TecopaCabana! I am a bit sad that you highlighted our one negative review from Bryce, and displayed an “Areas of Improvement” subsection, which is not noted for any of the other Airbnb listings.

After re-reading our reviews, we see no mention of the keywords highlighted in your blog, “no key/lock”, “leaking roof”, “no hot water”, “uncomfortable bedding”, “stairs”, or “railing.” The ONLY keyword that comes up is from a year ago, “no drinking water”, and we have since added a gallon of fresh drinking water to our rooms.

I would love to welcome you to our space so you can see our new bathhouse, watertight roofs, clean facilities, and magnificent views.

Tecopa is a healing town filled with magical hot spring waters, peaceful mountains, and positivity. When we all win, we all win. Let’s spread positivity, not defamation. <3

Hey Julie, thanks for your comment! We see the issue here – the Airbnb host profile for Lake Tecopa is the only profile with listings outside of Tecopa and it seems ChatGPT sucked up profile reviews as well. We are happy to run a correction. Just so we understand the situation, what is your role on the property? Are you an owner or employee?

Now knowing ChatGBT did not accurately write your article about properties in Tecopa, wouldn’t it be best to remove the post? This could be considered defamation being that it was published demonstrably false and could cause tangible, quantifiable damage.

Please accept our apologies if you were negatively impacted. Applying the same method of including all reviews from the listings and the profiles for all the locations was done in fairness. It was unclear from the reviews on the host profile that they were not from the Tecopa listing when it was vetted, as it now seems the original listing with the reviews that you quote here is from outside of Tecopa and no longer exists. We appreciate you bringing it to our attention, and it has been corrected. There was certainly no malice in creating this article, it was meant to be informative about the many new offerings that Tecopa has on Airbnb these days, which in turn boosts the Tecopa economy. There are many positive results for your listing shared here, and this information is intended to help our visitors make the best choice for themselves in their accommodations. Please share your role on the property for attribution. Thanks!
